(Looks like) art by me

Daily Pic: One of the “tantric” paintings now in a show at Feature Inc. in New York. The amazing thing about these anonymous Indian abstractions, which seem to look the same whether they are centuries old or quite recent (like this one), is how well they all manage to work, as pictures. Maybe that’s because they have roots in a spiritual practice that’s about more than just looking good. Of course, it could also be that that practice is an excuse for perfecting an art of gorgeous abstraction. (Also, tantric drawings often seem grounded in the real: This one evokes both eyes and breasts, without simply depicting them.)
